In some ironic way, we’ll celebrate one of the first spring days by screening and discussing a movie that takes place during a final vacation day of two people. „The Last Day of Summer” features only two charactes, whose brief relationship serves as a document of human vulnerability. Tadeusz Konwicki, a prolific filmaker, novelist and screenwriter, creates one of the most intense studies of human nature in Polish cinema; and he does it using most minimalistic measures in this austere, intimate movie. „The Last Day of Summer” remains one of the most mesmerizing pieces in the history of Polish cinema, globally celebrated at the time of its release (winning the Grand Prix at the 1958 Venice Film Festival) and still recognized by current audiences and critics, including director Martin Scorsese who cinsiders the movie a masterpiece of cinema.
