FKA’s Watch and Talk Polish Cinema is a unique opportunity to see and discuss classic Polish cinema in English language. Our second featured movie is „A Short Film About Killing” by Krzysztof Kieślowski.

 

 

Each essential milestone of Polish cinematography will be screened with subtitles and preceded with a short lecture that will provide the audience with a chance to explore the background of the piece. Moreover, screenings will be followed with discussions in English, allowing the audience to share their impressions.

We want to dig into lore decades of marvelous filmmaking, showing works of universally acclaimed filmmakers such as Roman Polański, Krzysztof Kieślowski and Andrzej Żuławski while also introducing you to hidden gems and significant modern masterpieces. Last but not least, it will be a fantastic opportunity to meet and interact with other English-speaking film lovers. Krzysztof Kieślowski is undeniably one of the most significant directors in the history of cinema. The influence his works have had on the shape of modern cinema is indisputable, as his legacy still has a gigantic impact on artists and audiences all over the globe. In the massively revered ‘A Short Film About Killing’, the fifth part in ‘The Decalogue’ series, he meditates over the nature of murder and capital punishment. It was one of the most celebrated movies of the year 1988, having won two awards during Cannes Film Festival and claming the first European Film Award for Best Film.
